[1]Why did you chose to come to the 2006 Japan Open?

Well, I've played in Japan once before in a monthly and had a great time Especially since it was a short course (Aikawa?) My wife is Japanese, so we visit Japan sometimes anyway.

[2]Where did you hear about the Japan Open?

Oh, in last year's DGWN. I really enjoyed Rick Rothstein's coverage of it.

[3]Even though this is an Open Division event, what division do you usually qualify for (specify Men's or Women's)?

Men's Am 1, at most, maybe even AM 2..

[4]What is your hometown?

Carnegie, Pennsylvania, but spent most of my life in Northern Virginia. Been in Hawaii for ten years.

[5]What is your favorite disc?

The one that went in the basket!
Actually, I've had serious relationships with a Candy Leopard and a JLS. Now that I'm using 150s, the Orc and I are getting along pretty well. I use the Roc more than anything, though.

[6]Do you typically throw 150 class discs?

No, but I like them. Makes my bag lighter...

[7]How long have you been playing disc golf?

Well, I played frisbie golf in the late eighties (at Burke Lake Park in Va), then didn't play again until three or four years ago, and found out it had changed to Disc Golf... My friend and I used to always gawk at the weirdos with bags and multiple frisbies, er, discs. Anyway, I've been playing for five or six years total.

[8]Do you play more for fun or for the competition?

Oh, for both. DG is such a great sport on so many levels. You have fun, you compete--against yourself and the others and the elements.

[9]What is your most memorable event and why?

Ahh, it'd have to be at a tourney here in Hawaii a couple years ago. As an Am 2 player, I parred the 666ft "El Diablo" hole. Me, who can't throw a disc 100 yards with a tailwind, ends up pin-high on the incredible downhill of El Diablo, with my trusty white candy Leopard. It was definitely the most beautiful flight of a disc I've ever seen, 'specially since it was mine. It was my group's first hole. The next hole was another long down-mountain shot. After getting my candy Leopard within about 60 yards I hyzered my Roc right smack ka-ching into the basket which was situated on top of an huge rock. It was like a half-court basketball shot. I was one-under. I've never been under--I've been "under" so few times in my DG career that I'm really not sure even how to keep score at that level. After that, though, I showed my true Am 2 colors; but those two first holes were just magical. I think that was the peak of my DG career, which is fine with me. But wait, that's not all... At the end of the day we all threw in five bucks for a CTP. It was only about 60 yards, kind of uphill, so anybody, even me, could reach it. I was planning to throw my Roc, but when I glanced down at my candy Leopard, it had that "put-me-i-i-in-coach" kind of justified pleading to it. I threw the Leopard and, as we all walked up to find out who was closest, I heard someone say, "Looks like it's the white Leopard." The am2 guy won it.

I grabbed a thick envelope full of cash and me and my friends Basil and Roger raced to make our flight to Honolulu. We made it to the airport just in time, but our flight was delayed for forty minutes, so we managed to spend most of my winnings at the airport bar. All in all, a magically fun day and the peak of my DG career.

[10]What is your goal for the Japan Open?

To have fun, play with some interesting people, and have more pars than quadruple bogeys
